In this episode of GET READY!, I spoke with Neil Granger who specializes in the identification and prevention of elder financial abuse. Neil and I discussed best practices for insurance agents, common fraud techniques and elder financial abuse legislation. Neil shared his experiences in working with attorneys, regulators and law enforcement on elder financial abuse prevention and enforcement.

Neil Granger has been in the financial services industry for more than 35 years. In addition to being a California Life Agent, he is also licensed as a Life and Disability Analyst-one of less than 40 in the state. Neil has spent most of his Insurance career as an independent agent in the area life, health, disability and Long Term Care insurance sales, working with individuals and small businesses.
Since 2008, Neil has focused his practice on Consulting and Expert work in the area of Elder Financial Abuse prevention. Neil works with several District Attorney Offices as a member of their Financial Abuse Specialist Teams, has testified in both Criminal and Civil cases, and works with the Investigative Unit of the California Department of Insurance. He also works with the Washington State Attorney General. Neil has also helped draft, and has testified in favor of, insurance legislation, which has helped strengthen financial protection for California Seniors. He is also Chairman of the California Department of Insurance Curriculum Board.
Neil is also a member of the City and County of San Francisco’s Forensic Center, a group comprised of Adult Protective Servicer workers, representatives from the SF County Ombudsman, City Attorney, DA, Police, Conservator, medical staff, and others.
Neil is also part of the Veterans Aid Awareness Project. This group is working to publicize and curtail the financial abuse of Veterans through the improper use of the Veterans Aid and Attendance program by commercial financial predators.
